Wedding photographer’s point of view
Why are wedding photographers talking about makeup? Well, the answer is – we will be editing those images. That’s why, as wedding professionals our best advice would be – hire a good professional! It makes such a big difference when your makeup is done by an expert. You will see that on your wedding pictures.
Why a good wedding make up matters?
A great makeup makes such a huge difference – you look and feel fantastic and this is reflected on your wedding pictures. It should be the last thing to worry about on your wedding day.
As wedding photographers capturing real moments we love those artists who use your natural beauty and highlight it. An award winning artist Anastasia has written a couple of really useful tips that make a really huge difference:
Wedding make up – 9 top tips
1) It’s all about you
Remember, this is YOUR special day. Many brides want to please everyone else and forget about themselves. This day should be about you and feeling the most beautiful you’ve ever been.
And as a wedding photographer I can say – if you feel amazing, you will look gorgeous on your wedding pictures.
2) Trial is important
A trial is recommended 4-8 weeks before the wedding day, this really helps you decide how you should look on your wedding day. If you have sensitive skin, this is the best time to find out if you have an allergic reaction to some of the products.
Also, as a wedding photographer I have seen brides panicking and changing their look moments before the ceremony. You don’t need that stress!
3) Leave it to the professionals
Even though wedding makeup is usually very simple and neutral, it is one of the hardest looks to create, since it has to be PERFECT. Makeup should last all day, through all the crying, hugging, kissing, eating and dancing. You’ll probably want to get your mascara waterproof, lips to be kiss proof, and your skin makeup to be bombproof.
And as a wedding photographer I can confirm that experienced artists know exactly what to use so your skin looks amazing on your wedding pictures.
4) Take care of your brows before the wedding day
Get your brows plucked and shaped (possibly even dyed) before the wedding day. If you pluck them on your wedding day, your brows may look red, swollen and irritated.
5) Put your lenses on before the make up
If you’re going to wear contact lenses on your wedding day, put the lenses on before applying your wedding makeup.
6) Just relax
Try not to stress too much (easier said than done, I know!). Stress may cause impurities on your skin.
7) Better cover than attack
If you have some impurities, do not pick at them as it makes them worse! Besides, as a photographer I can assure you – they can be easily photoshopped!
8) The night before
Put a clean pillowcase on the night before your wedding.
9) Water to the rescue
Drink plenty of water to keep your skin soft and hydrated. This is the last tip, but one of the most important ones. Hydrated skin looks awesome on wedding pictures. I know, we have edited over 300 weddings!
