Anniversary photoshoot: Rock My Frock and after-wedding photo shoot ideas (by The Mays)

Your wedding day flies by – and then your outfits end up hanging quietly in the wardrobe like they belonged to someone else. That’s exactly why we love an anniversary photoshoot (also known as a Rock My Frock / after-wedding photo shoot): you get to relive the feeling without the timetable, the nerves, or the pressure.

We’re Marta May Photography – also known as The Mays (Marta + Artur). You might recognise us from TWIA – we won in 2023 as “The Mays”, and we’re now TWIA judges. Our signature is DOCU-ART: real moments first, with cinematic portraits when the light is gorgeous.

QUICK ANSWER

An anniversary photoshoot is the easiest way to get “wedding-level” photos again – without wedding-day stress. You wear your wedding outfits (dress, suit, cultural outfits – anything you love), pick a beautiful place (mountains, coast, city), and we keep it relaxed and story-led.

KEY FACTS

Best time: sunrise or sunset (soft light, calm vibe)
Best locations: the Black Mountains, the coast, woodland, waterfalls, or a favourite city
What to wear: wedding outfits or something you feel incredible in
Biggest benefit: you’re already confident in front of the camera – it’s just fun now
Fresh proof: we did another shoot like this just after the pandemic, and it was genuinely special

Where to go for an anniversary / Rock My Frock shoot (Black Mountains, coast, or city)

The best part of an after-wedding photoshoot is that you get to choose a place you genuinely love – without worrying about guests, travel logistics, or the wedding timeline. Here are a few location “vibes” that work beautifully:

  • Black Mountains (wild + cinematic)
Big views, dramatic skies, open space, and that fresh-air feeling that makes everything look like a film. Perfect if you want a little adventure and photos that feel epic without being staged.
  • Coast (windy, romantic, timeless)
The coast is magic for movement: wind in hair, waves, big horizons, and natural emotion. It’s also brilliant for couples who want something relaxed and non-posed – you can just walk, talk, and be yourselves.
  • City (cool, modern, night lights)
If you’re more “urban romance” than countryside, a city shoot can be stunning – clean lines, reflections, street lights, cosy corners, and that date-night energy.
  • Woodland / fields / waterfalls (soft + story-led)
If you want something quieter, nature spots give you intimacy and calm. It’s ideal if you want the photos to feel gentle, cosy, and emotional.

The Mays tip
Pick the place that matches your relationship, not what looks trendy. The best photos come when you feel like yourselves.

A simple shoot plan (so it feels easy, not awkward)

You don’t need to “perform” for an anniversary shoot. Here’s the calm plan that works almost every time:

Step 1: Choose a vibe + one location
Mountains / coast / city / woodland. Keep it simple – one base location is enough.

Step 2: Pick the best light
Sunrise or sunset is the sweet spot. Soft light = relaxed faces, cinematic mood, and less people around.

Step 3: Decide what you’re wearing
Wedding outfits are amazing, but it’s not a rule. You can do:

  • full wedding outfits
  • “wedding outfit + casual layer” (jacket, boots, knitwear)
  • something completely different that still feels special
The goal is: you feel incredible and comfortable.

Step 4: Keep it short and fun
We’ll guide you gently with movement and prompts, not stiff posing. Think of it like a walk and a catch-up, with a few “wow” moments in between.

Step 5: Add one meaningful detail (optional)
A bottle of fizz, coffee in a flask, a picnic blanket, your dog, a letter you never got to read, or just a “we made it” toast. Tiny details make it personal.

DOCU-ART promise
The best anniversary photos are the ones where you forget you’re being photographed.

FAQs: anniversary photoshoots / Rock My Frock

Do we have to wear our exact wedding outfits?
No. You can wear the full outfits, or just keep the vibe (dress or suit, or something more relaxed). The goal is to feel like you – just a little elevated.

Is this only for brides and grooms?
Not at all. It’s for every couple. Two brides, two grooms, mixed-gender couples, non-binary couples – same idea: wear what you love and celebrate your story.

When is the best time for an anniversary shoot?
Any time. Anniversary dates are lovely, but honestly, the best time is when the light and weather suit the location you want. Many couples do it in spring or autumn for softer light.

What if we feel awkward in front of the camera?
That’s normal, and it usually disappears within minutes. We’ll guide you with easy movement and prompts so it feels natural, not posed.

Can we bring our dog / kids / family?
Yes. We can keep it couple-focused, or make it a “family chapter” too. Just tell us what you want it to feel like.

What if the weather is rubbish?
We’ll plan a simple Plan A/B/C (and you’ll be amazed how cinematic moody weather can look). If it’s truly unsafe, we reschedule.

How long does the shoot take?
Usually 60–90 minutes is perfect for a relaxed, story-led session with a bit of variety.
