Old Gore Barn wedding photography is usually described as relaxed, rustic and effortlessly stylish – and after photographing our first wedding there, we completely understand why.

Set in the beautiful Cotswolds countryside, Old Gore Barn has everything people love about a modern barn wedding. Beautiful architecture, incredible food, panoramic views and a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere that makes everyone feel at home.

But what struck us most wasn’t actually the venue. It was the way people used it.

This wasn’t a wedding built around a long photography schedule or endless posed portraits. It was built around celebrating. Family, traditions, dancing, incredible food and spending as much time together as possible. We photographed just a handful of portraits because that’s exactly what our couple wanted, and honestly, we wouldn’t have changed a thing.

That’s one of the reasons we love documentary wedding photography so much. Every wedding should reflect the couple, not a Pinterest checklist. Sometimes that means an hour exploring the grounds together. Other times, it means five minutes, a few beautiful photographs, and then getting straight back to the people waiting to celebrate with you.

Old Gore Barn turned out to be the perfect place for exactly that.

And by the end of the day, after more dancing than we’ve ever seen before speeches, a spectacular sunset, and one of the most unforgettable wedding cakes we’ve photographed, we knew this venue had completely won us over.

A Greek Orthodox Ceremony, Followed by a Cotswolds Celebration

One of the things we love most about Old Gore Barn wedding photography is that every wedding feels completely different. This one started with a beautiful Greek Orthodox ceremony, surrounded by family, tradition and centuries of history, before everyone made their way into the Cotswolds to celebrate at Old Gore Barn.

It was a wonderful combination.

The morning was steeped in tradition, while the reception felt relaxed, modern and completely centred around celebrating together. As soon as guests arrived, the atmosphere shifted from quiet anticipation to pure excitement.

And then… the dancing began. Not after dinner. Not after speeches. Almost as soon as everyone arrived. Guests gathered outside, music started playing, and before anyone had even thought about sitting down, the dance floor had already moved into the sunshine. It felt spontaneous, joyful and completely infectious, the kind of celebration where everyone, regardless of age, joins in.

That’s exactly what we love about documentary wedding photography. There isn’t a formula for the perfect wedding day. Some couples spend an hour taking portraits, others spend that hour dancing with the people they love most. Neither is better.

The best wedding is always the one that feels most like you. And this one couldn’t have been more perfect for the couple who planned it.

The Party Never Really Stopped

One thing became very clear during this Old Gore Barn wedding… This couple weren’t saving the party until the evening. The dancing started before the speeches, carried on afterwards, and then, just when everyone thought the celebrations couldn’t get any bigger, the evening began all over again.

Before the first dance came one of the most memorable cakes we’ve ever photographed. Forget towering tiers – this was something completely different. A long, flat cake stretching almost the entire length of the table, covered with fresh strawberries and raspberries. It was beautifully simple, wonderfully different, and looked almost too good to cut. Almost.

Cake cut, everyone gathered outside, and the first dance took place under the open sky. It was relaxed, joyful and completely true to the spirit of the day. As the music continued, guests joined in one by one until the whole evening became one big outdoor celebration. As Old Gore Barn wedding photography goes, it was the perfect reminder that there isn’t a “right” way to plan a wedding. You don’t have to follow a traditional timeline. You don’t have to save everything until the evening.

Sometimes the best celebrations start the moment your guests arrive, and simply never stop. That’s exactly what happened here.

A Few Portraits Were All We Needed

One thing we always tell our couples is this:

Your wedding day should never revolve around your photography. It should revolve around you.

For this Old Gore Barn wedding, the couple had one simple request – they didn’t want to spend lots of time away from their guests taking portraits. They wanted to celebrate, catch up with family, and soak up every minute of the day. So that’s exactly what we did.

We slipped away for just a few minutes, created a handful of relaxed portraits together, and then headed straight back to the party. And honestly? They were enough. As documentary wedding photographers, we don’t believe the number of portraits makes a wedding gallery better. We’d much rather have ten genuine minutes with a couple than an hour of photographs that stop them from enjoying their own wedding.

Those few quiet moments gave us everything we needed, beautiful light, genuine connection and a chance for the two of them to pause together before diving back into the celebrations. The rest of the story belonged exactly where it should…

Why We Shot Part of This Wedding on 35mm Film

One of the things we love about Old Gore Barn wedding photography is how naturally it lends itself to analogue film. So alongside our digital cameras, we also photographed part of this wedding on 35mm film.

Film has a softness that’s difficult to describe until you see it. The colours are gentle, the grain has character, and there’s a beautiful honesty to every frame. You can’t check the back of the camera. You can’t shoot hundreds of versions of the same moment. You simply trust your eye… and the moment. For a wedding like this – relaxed, joyful and completely centred around people – that slower way of photographing felt like the perfect fit.
