Colourful Herefordshire countryside wedding days are the best kind of celebration – relaxed, personal, and full of those little details that make the whole thing feel so you. Lucy + Mark’s day was exactly that: vibrant styling, loads of personality, and an at-home marquee wedding in the countryside that felt like a garden party turning into a proper, joy-filled night.
We’re Marta May Photography – also known as The Mays (Marta + Artur) – a husband-and-wife photo + film team. Our style is DOCU-ART: real documentary moments, plus cinematic portraits that still feel natural (no awkward posing, no forced stuff).
QUICK ANSWER
If you’re planning a Herefordshire countryside wedding and you want photos that feel genuine, colourful, and full of atmosphere, this is a perfect real-life example – from the ceremony at Weston-under-Penyard to a private-home marquee celebration built around an old apple tree.

Stunning wedding decorations
This was one of those colourful Herefordshire countryside weddings where every detail felt personal – bold flowers, gorgeous bridesmaids’ dresses, and styling that looked like it belonged in the landscape (not plonked on top of it).
The at-home marquee was honestly brilliant. It was built around a real old apple tree on the bride’s family farm, which made it feel instantly warm and grounded – like the celebration had grown there naturally. The bar setup was a total show-stopper too, and we loved the little touches: apples worked into the styling, small trees, old benches, and those vintage-style bulbs giving everything that soft, golden glow.
We couldn’t stop taking photos, because it was all so them.

Real Herefordshire countryside wedding
Lucy + Mark didn’t want loads of portrait photos – they wanted the day to feel real, and the pictures to match that. So we kept it simple: a few relaxed, natural portraits (nothing stiff), and then we focused on the moments that actually matter – the hugs, the laughs, the happy chaos, the little looks you don’t even notice happening at the time.
Every couple is different, and that’s the whole point. Your wedding photos should feel like your story, not a template. The best advice we can give? Get to know your photographer, tell them what matters to you (and what you don’t want), and trust them to photograph the day in a way that feels honest. That’s how you end up with a gallery you genuinely love.
The wedding location
The wedding ceremony took place in the old Weston-Under-Penyard church and the celebrations were held at Overton Farm, Herefordshire, our bride’s family home.

We’re Marta May Photography – also known as The Mays (Marta + Artur). We were TWIA National Winners in 2023 (listed as “The Mays”) and we’re now TWIA judges, so you’re in very safe hands. This is what our awesome couple told 2018 TWIA judges about us and our work:
“Marta and Artur, were a great duo, giving tips and advice, making the group enjoy the time being photographed. They blended into the crowd well, whilst also gaining the best output from a not often photographed bride and groom in the one to one photographs! They worked tirelessly throughout the day and we’re delighted with the shots from our Wedding”
Why did they book us?
“I like to support local businesses and given the Wedding was based in Herefordshire I thought Martha was a perfect find. From those that I reviewed I thought Marta’s website was energetic and the pictures of real weddings well documented, this gave insight into the options and techniques that Martha and Artur use, which is all very natural, that being our preference.”

The at-home marquee celebration (built around an apple tree)
There’s something extra special about an at-home marquee wedding – it’s not just a venue, it’s your own world for the day. The space feels personal, familiar, and full of meaning, and that comes through in the photos straight away.
This one was a proper Herefordshire countryside dream: the apple tree running right through the marquee, guests spilling outside between moments, and that relaxed garden-party energy that slowly turns into a full-on celebration once the evening starts. It felt effortless, but it was also so thoughtfully done – the kind of wedding that looks beautiful and feels brilliant to be part of.

At-home marquee planning tip (paste-ready)
At-home marquee weddings are the dream – but they run best when you plan for the practical bits early. If you can, think about guest flow (where people enter, queue for the bar, and gather for speeches), add one extra layer of evening lighting (festoon/uplighters makes a huge difference), and make sure you’ve got a simple wet-grass plan (flooring or a clear path). It keeps everyone comfortable – and when people feel good, the photos instantly look more relaxed and joyful too.
