A beautiful Spring Engagement Session in Herefordshire

QUICK ANSWER

This spring engagement session in Titley, Herefordshire was all about warm light, big countryside views, and real, unposed moments – the kind of relaxed pre-wedding shoot that feels like a mini date (with a cinematic finish).

About the photographers

We’re Marta May Photography – also known as The Mays (Marta + Artur), a husband-and-wife team photographing weddings and pre-wedding shoots across Herefordshire, the Cotswolds, and the Welsh borders. Our style is DOCU-ART: real moments first, gently guided when needed, with a cinematic edge when the light turns up.

If you’re here because you want a full guide (what an engagement shoot is, what to wear, where to go, and what to expect), pop over to our main post: Engagement shoot guide (link to your pillar). This post is simply a real example: Marina & Sam’s spring engagement session in Herefordshire.

Titley, Herefordshire: the dream spring backdrop

This session took place in Titley, and honestly – it’s one of those Herefordshire corners that makes you stop mid-sentence and go, “Wait… how is this real?” We met outside Marina & Sam’s home and started the shoot the simplest way possible: a walk.

That’s always our favourite approach because it doesn’t feel like “posing practice”. It feels like the two of you having a good hour together – and we just happen to be there, capturing the little in-between moments: the laughs mid-conversation, the hands naturally finding each other, the way you soften when you stop thinking about the camera.

Engagement session locations in Herefordshire

We photograph a lot of engagement shoots around Herefordshire, and Queenswood Country Park is a classic for good reason (beautiful light, easy paths, and it always works).
But sessions like this are a reminder to keep exploring, because Herefordshire is packed with quiet lanes, open fields, and hidden pockets of ridiculous scenery.

If you’re choosing a spring location, our best advice is to pick somewhere that gives you:

  • space to walk without feeling watched,
  • a view or background that feels “big” (even if it’s close to home),
  • and enough variety that the gallery doesn’t feel repetitive.

KEY FACTS

Location: Titley, Herefordshire
Season: Spring (fresh greens + softer skies)

Best time: Golden hour into blue hour (romantic light, fewer people around)
Vibe: Relaxed walk, natural connection, a few cinematic portraits

The best timing for a spring engagement session

If you want romantic photos that feel warm and cinematic, timing is everything. For Marina & Sam’s shoot we planned it around the golden hour, and we stayed out long enough to catch a little blue hour too – that softer, duskier light that makes everything feel like a film still.

Spring is especially good for this because the evenings get longer, the air feels softer, and you get fresh greens without the heavy heat of summer. Plus, it’s often quieter than peak wedding season – so your session feels calm and unhurried.

The “horses moment” (aka: the magic you can’t plan)

One of the best parts of countryside engagement sessions is that you can’t fully storyboard them. You can plan location and light – but then the real magic arrives in the form of whatever the day gives you.

On this session, that moment happened when we wandered past the horses. It turned into one of those little scenes that just belongs to that couple and that place – and it’s exactly why personal locations beat generic backdrops every time.
