How to get featured on Rock My Wedding: a calm, practical plan (by The Mays)

If you’d love your wedding to be featured on Rock My Wedding, the good news is: you don’t need a “styled shoot wedding” or a huge budget. You need a clear story, thoughtful details, and photos that feel real.

We’re Marta May Photography – also known as The Mays (Marta + Artur). You might recognise us from TWIA – we won in 2023 as “The Mays” and we’re now TWIA judges. Our signature is DOCU-ART: candid documentary moments first, with cinematic portraits when the light is gorgeous.

QUICK ANSWER

To get featured on Rock My Wedding, plan a day with a clear look/feel, a few personal details, and space for real emotion. Then submit a tight set of strong colour images (mix of portraits + wide scenes + details) with the full supplier list and story – and be ready for the couple questionnaire if it’s accepted.

KEY FACTS

What they want: inspirational colour photography + details + emotion
Inclusivity matters: they actively encourage diverse submissions
Budgets: they want a wide range (simple to luxury)
Approval: the wedding needs to hit at least two out of three criteria (recommended supplier / diversity / unique look & story)
Submissions: they use Submittable, and accepted submissions require a couple questionnaire

What Rock My Wedding actually looks for

They’re clear about the kind of features their audience loves: strong photography, personal details, and emotion – not just “pretty”. They also place a big focus on diversity and inclusivity, and they want weddings across a wide range of budgets.

The “publishable wedding” plan (without staging your day)

This is the bit couples get wrong: trying to manufacture moments. Instead, do this:

  • Pick your wedding vibe in one sentence
Example: “cosy winter candlelight”, “colourful garden party”, “modern city elegance”, “festival weekend”, “Italian villa romance”.
  • Choose 3 personal details (not 30)
Something you care about (food, music, ceremony, fashion, cultural elements, family traditions). Simple, meaningful, not performative.
  • Protect breathing room in the timeline
No one looks relaxed when they’re sprinting. Calm timelines create better photos and better memories.

A quick checklist for the wedding day

Getting ready: one bright room + less clutter
Ceremony: slower aisle walk + look at each other
Portraits: two short pockets (5–10 minutes)
Group photos: short list (8–10 groups)
Golden hour / blue hour: optional mini pocket if the light is gorgeous
Party: stay for the real fun – that’s where the story becomes “you”

Submitting the wedding (how it works)

Rock My Wedding accepts and reviews submissions through Submittable. If your submission is successful, they’ll need the couple to complete their Real Wedding questionnaire.

We can help with:

  • Selecting the strongest image set (portraits + wides + details + emotion)
  • Organising supplier credits
  • Writing a simple story summary
  • Submitting (with your permission)

What makes a wedding “feature-worthy” (without turning it into a styled shoot)

One of my favourite things is when couples get involved in the photography side of their wedding – not by staging moments, but by thinking about the vibe, the story, and what matters to them. This whole post came from a real email from a couple who asked, “Can we get featured on Rock My Wedding?” and the answer is: yes, it’s possible, and we can absolutely help you make a strong submission.

Rock My Wedding has clear submission criteria, and they review weddings through their submissions platform. So rather than guessing, we always start with what they say they want, then we build a calm plan around your real day.

1) Stay inspired (and share your ideas early)

Inspiration is helpful when it’s used as a filter, not a pressure cooker. Pinterest boards and blog saves can be brilliant, especially if you use them to answer one question:
“What do we want our day to feel like?”

If you keep one shared mood board, send it over early. That way we can understand the vibe and plan the best light and story moments around it.

2) Be creative (in a way that’s actually you)

You don’t need to reinvent weddings. You just need a couple of personal details that feel honest:
a ceremony choice that reflects you, meaningful fashion, a unique venue flow, colour decisions that aren’t “default”, or anything that tells your story.

The goal isn’t “different for the sake of it”. It’s “this feels like us”.

3) Be happy (aka plan for calm so you can be present)

This is the big one. Features happen when photos feel real, and real happens when you’re not stressed. So plan your wedding morning to be calm: no last-minute decorating, no rushing, and enough buffer time that you can actually enjoy the people around you.

FAQs

Do we need to be “quirky” to get featured?
No. Clear story + personal details + strong photos beats random trends.

Do we need a big budget?
No. Rock My Wedding explicitly wants a wide range of budgets.

Can you guarantee we’ll be featured?
We can’t – only the editorial team decides. But we can absolutely help you make the strongest submission possible.

What should we do right now if we want a feature?
Tell us early. Then we’ll shape the timeline slightly (light + breathing room), and we’ll keep an eye on the details that help a submission without turning your day into a shoot.

A gentle reality check (so expectations stay sane)

Features are always editorial decisions. Even amazing weddings can be “not the right fit right now”. The goal is: plan a day you love first – then we submit if you’d like.
